Engines
of growth
Two
local companies - The Cobb Group and Humana - have spun off nearly
two-dozen successful companies. The two companies share an even
greater legacy: they have emerged as the twin engines of Louisville's
economic growth, especially in the high-tech and medical fields.

Four
Louisville-based companies plan to create nearly 400 Internet-related
jobs, which is evidence that the Louisville high-tech economy still

in the United States.

Network
Advocates has not yet hatched from the iTRC incubator, but it has
begun to sell two services - a Web-site product called ez-Manage,
and a service that develops what founder Tom Troutman calls "high-performance"
internal networks for business customers, particularly those with
staff at more than one location. Started in August 1998, the company
has grown to 15 employees and expects revenue for 2000 to exceed
$1 million. Troutman credit being affiliated with the incubator
as helping that growth.

Inside
EDS: Behind the scenes
In 1997, EDS started
a new organization called CIO - Chief Information Officer - Services,
an organization focused on changing the company from a traditional
outsourcing company to a Big Five professional-services model .
. . We were going from an outsourcing perspective to a project-management
perspective, whereby you may work with the client for seven days,
then go to another client. We're transforming the corporation because
there are not as many three-year build efforts anymore. So we're
changing our culture and our people to short-term projects.

In defining your
e-commerce Web site plan for 2001 and beyond, you must deliver what
you promise. Your commerce site's financial success will be a direct
result of this. Though e-commerce has dramatically heightened customer
expectations, companies with the image and reputation of known brands
that focus on "delivery" can succeed
