Restaurants set for Slugger Field Microbrewery, steak house will open in summer

Two large restaurants, one an upscale steak house with valet parking and the other a casual baseball themed microbrewery, will open this summer at Louisville Slugger Field. Together the restaurants will employ about 75 people; they will be open year-round for lunch and dinner.

Love of the river inspired couple to reopen docks

Will and his wife, Nicole, bought the seven-acre property last month, and since then they have been renovating its facilities -- which include an apartment house, a boat ramp, houseboat docks on the river and 703 feet of smaller docks lining Goose Creek. The last owner had used the property strictly for residential purposes, so when the Wills bought it, they did not inherit clients for the boat-related aspects of the business. The Wills are recruiting clients and have a number signed up.

Ideas for South of Broadway offered

People who live and work downtown south of Broadway got a chance last night to add their ideas to those of a task force dedicated to revitalizing the area. About 35 business owners, residents and property owners looked at slides of urban features ranging from parking garages to sidewalks, trying to pinpoint those they liked. The area under discussion is nicknamed SoBro, short for South of Broadway, bounded by Ninth Street, Broadway, Interstate 65 and Kentucky Street.

Ventures should allow up to five years for success

Business owners never like to throw in the towel, but on occasion that can be the right course of action. The typical business gets started and survives because its founder doesn't know the meaning of the word "quit." Absolute conviction and commitment are essential. Anything less and an entrepreneur's chances for success drop to nil.

Channels 52 and above are pegged to get new wireless-technology uses
Frequencies set aside to broadcast TV channels 52 through 59 could soon be used to offer consumers new services, like wireless high-speed Internet access. The government took steps yesterday to speed that along. It's tied to the bigger process of broadcasters switching from analog to digital television. Once that is complete, all TV stations will be broadcasting in digital on channels 2 through 51.
