SPECIAL REPORT
Congratulations Bruce!
Bruce Traughber, one of the cofounders of eMainUSA, is leaving
city government to step into a new role. Starting January 15,
Bruce will become the first executive director of ULH Inc.,
a nonprofit real estate and housing arm of the University of
Louisville Foundation. Bruce has been the chief architect for
Mayor Dave Armstrong's visions for downtown development. His
early support of the eMain project was critical to our success.
We will miss his day-to-day contributions but look forward to
working with him in his new role. Congratulations Bruce!

Long-delayed work begins on Louisville skating
park
Construction of Louisville's Extreme Sports Park is now under
way. When the project's $2.5 million first phase is complete
-- probably in April -- it will be worth the wait and expense,
skating enthusiasts and city officials said. The first phase
will feature 40,000 square feet of outdoor, all-concrete facilities
-- bowls, ramps, rails, stairs and pipes -- to challenge experts,
and lesser inclines for novices. Construction of the second
phase of the park, an indoor portion, should begin by fall of
next year and be completed by late 2003. The second phase will
feature a 20,000-square-foot building, with see-through walls
and two large bay doors that will open to the outside facility.
Skaters will be able to glide seamlessly from one part to the
other through the bay doors when they are opened.

Forget all your cares and go downtown
Imagine that your neighborhood is made up of Louisville
Slugger Museum and Louisville Slugger Field, the historic Cathedral
of the Assumption and the Louisville Palace Theatre. And in
your backyard you get to revel in the ever-changing and pleasant
prospect of the Ohio River. That is just what the neighborhood
is for 3,400 or so residents who live in the core of downtown
Louisville, a 102-block area between Ninth and Hancock streets
(west-east) and York Street and the river (south-north).

What's in the cards
Is this the year you'll go wireless? Perhaps you'll tune
into satellite radio. Maybe you'd like to have your e-mail read
to you through a voice-activated cell phone while you drive
or have directions softly spoken to you from your personal digital
assistant (PDA). These are some of the top technologies -- many
already available to consumers -- poised to bloom in 2002. And
by that we mean ready for prime time - purged of technological
gremlins and priced for average consumers.
