    Plans for old Vermont American plant move forward
    The owners of the old Vermont American Corp. plant at 500 E. Main St. are preparing to move forward with plans for redeveloping the site. They are proposing to convert the complex at the northwest corner of East Main and Jackson streets into office and retail space. Entertainment venues and restaurants also could be part of the mix in what will be a $4 million to $6 million project.

    Extreme Park proves popular at all hours
    Local News
    Nine weeks after opening, the Louisville Extreme Park at Clay and Witherspoon streets is getting heavy use and continues to draw rave reviews. Metro Parks officials have lined up a series of summer activities at the park and also a Labor Day weekend event that sponsors predict could draw up to 10,000 spectators and as many as 150 extreme-sports competitors from across the country.

    East Market steadily crafts a new identity

    East Market is transforming itself into an eclectic mix of contemporary art galleries, antique shops and restaurants with sidewalk seating. Several buildings, including a historic firehouse on Hancock Street, have been renovated into businesses with loft-style apartments and condominiums on the upper floors, attracting a smattering of new residents. And more renovations are planned or under way.

    Waterfront-condo work resumes

    After halting for most of last month while developers arranged financing, construction has resumed full speed on Waterfront Park Place, the highrise luxury condominium tower that will overlook the downtown riverfront.

    Public radio to sponsor after-work riverfront concerts
    Louisville's Public Radio Partnership and the Louisville Waterfront Development Corp. will sponsor a series of evening concerts designed to keep young professionals downtown after work. Each concert will be held the last Wednesday of each month between May and September, the release said. The remaining events will be held June 26, July 31, August 28 and Sept. 25.

    Louisville Internet data company Xodiax has begun a Technology Accelerator Program to provide top-of-the-line Internet services to new business ventures at a bargain-basement price.
