program, which combines distance education and local in-class

Planned building called asset to East Main area
A $12 million building with offices, shops and condominiums
at Main and Preston streets ''will be an excellent fit''
for the burgeoning East Main corridor, said Louisville Mayor
Dave Armstrong. The seven-story Preston Point project --
which will rise just west of Louisville Slugger Field and
a block from the Waterfront Park Place residential tower
being built near the riverfront -- is slated for completion
next spring.

Pro skateboarder draws thousands
to Extreme Park
More than 8,000 people the endured heat to see Tony Hawk,
skateboarding's biggest celebrity. Hawk said he specifically
included the Extreme Park among the 10 locations where
his crew of 11 professional skateboarders and bikers will
stop nationwide, ESPN cameras in tow. He had no regrets
after yesterday's show. ''It was unbelievable . . . the
best turnout we've had on the tour this year,'' Hawk said
last night, adding that the park had lived up to its billing.
''Every stop we go to, people are talking about this park.
They ask us, 'When are you going to Louisville?' '' Hawk
said after the event. ''This park is everything it was
touted as.''

Businesses may fund expansion
of skate park
Three days after the Louisville Board of Aldermen axed
a $2 million addition for the Extreme Park, Mayor Dave
Armstrong announced that more than 20 businesses have
expressed interest in funding the expansion. Armstrong
wouldn't name the businesses, but he said he's confident
they will provide enough money to complete the park by
year's end.

Lighter tote promises fresher
hot dogs for fans
Baseball and hot dogs. The two go together like peanut
butter and jelly, cookies and milk or red, white and blue.
But an Oldham County food-service company thinks it has
found a way to improve on the classic combo. Buckner-based
Rocket Man Inc. has developed Rocket Dog, a portable unit
for dispensing hot dogs that's being tested at Louisville's
Slugger Field.

Home of the Innocents is on
track with first phase of new complex
The first phase of the Home of the Innocents' $25 million
redevelopment of the sprawling Bourbon Stock Yard site
at the eastern end of Market Street is on schedule to
be completed next spring. When it's done, the ''children's
village'' is expected to improve property values in the
Irish Hill, Butchertown and Phoenix Hill neighborhoods.

getting in gear
Bluetooth — the technology that allows devices such
as cell phones, personal digital assistants (PDAs) and
printers to talk to each other and desktop PCs without
wires — is finally getting some bite. Though it
will be a few years before Bluetooth will allow a communications
module in your car to dial roadside assistance on your
mobile phone and upload diagnostic information about a
breakdown, the short-range wireless communications system
is becoming popular for simpler applications.
