Mayor
Unveils Winning Design for Parking Garage at First and Main
Louisville,
Kentucky, Mayor Dave Armstrong today unveiled the winning
design for a new six-story, 650-lot parking garage on the
southeast corner of First and Main Streets that will meet
demand created by eMain development and events at the waterfront
and convention center.
The
Donley's design/build team - which includes local architects
Godsey Associates as well as CKC Engineers and Graelic L.L.C.
- was selected to build the $9 million facility over nine
other bidders
"One
key outcome of heightened interest and enthusiasm for downtown
development is getting quality proposals for new projects,"
said Mayor Armstrong. "It is nice to have the luxury
of choosing the winning design from so many creative, attractive
and functional proposals."
The
new parking garage on East Main Street will be built on three-quarters
of an acre and include about 12,000 square feet of retail
space at the ground level. The mostly brick structure will
blend with surrounding buildings, and feature a distinctive
glass tower on its northwest corner that reflects the technological
activity in the area.
One
key advantage of the Donleys team proposal is the fact
that construction of the project could be completed four months
sooner than most of the other bidders. Construction could
begin in the next 30 to 45 days and be completed within a
year.
The
new garage will join about 20 buildings currently under construction
or renovation in the eMain corridor.
